“But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:” Apostle Paul, Acts 24:14
Noticed, very carefully that Paul and other Bible believers were looked upon as heretics following heresy as noted by Paul in the Book of Acts in our bibles. Biblical Christianity has ALWAYS been called “HERESY” in the eyes of those seeking to set up a State Church as a way to work their way into heaven.
“The English Scriptures issued by the American and Foreign Bible Society, although a literal transcript of King James’ version of 1611, have been frequently stigmatized from the press and the pulpit as “the Baptist Bible.” ” page 89
The American Bible society and the Baptists, by Wyckoff, William Henry, printed 1841
What was the Baptists heresy that the 1841 American Bible Society Board of Managers was so concerned about ? It was the fact that Baptist missionaries from 1793 (and invited to join at the founding of the American Bible Society in 1816); were using the English King James Bible to translate the word of God into other languages. This damnable heresy, known as “Baptist versions” even thou most of the donations since the founding of the American Bible Society were from Baptists, was now interfering with large donations from those in England, and America that wanted a more “Romanist” English version to replace “the Baptist Bible.”
“The idea suggested that versions to be approved must not materially differ from the “sense of the authorized English version,” is most strange.” page 7
How is it that after Baptist missionaries being sent from America since 1793 have been using the King James bible for translating, and not the “original Scriptures” is now in 1841 “most strange” to the American Bible Society Board of Managers ?
Noticed, when speaking about “the Baptist Bible (King James Bible)” on page 46 at the time of the founding of the American Bible Society in 1816 above; it is about translating the word of God into other languages using the words in the English King James version:
“Since, in their opinion, faithfulness requires that every word, in the translation of which denominations differ, should be conformed to the English version, they certainly decide that in these words the English Bible is faithful.” page 46
Yet, now in 1841 after 25 years it is an issue with the American Bible Society Board of Managers :
“The general question before the Society growing out of the case of the Bengali version, was this. On points of Philology, involving doctrines or practice, in which evangelical Christians, supporting the American Bible Society, differ from each other, what course should be followed in the translation of Scripture? Should the words, on the supposed meaning of which the difference depends, be translated from the original Scriptures or transferred from the English version?” page 65
The interesting thing about the above proceedings of the American Bible society in relation to the Baptists is that:
In 1841 “a literal transcript of King James’ version of 1611, have been frequently stigmatized from the press and the pulpit as “the Baptist Bible.””
That “Baptist versions” are bibles that were translated into other languages using the King James Baptist Bible. A practice that Baptist missionaries have been doing since 1793.
That other members of the American Bible society began to complain 25 years later about the “Baptist versions”.
“For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.” 2 Corinthians 2:17
“But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:” Apostle Paul, Acts 24:14
“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.” 2 Peter 2:1-3
